Import duty on pet food reduced by 10%

According to the latest budget released on February 28, 2007, a 10 percent reduction has been announced on the import duty levied on pet food, which reduces it from 30 percent to 20 percent. The pet food industry, as well as the pet owners, has welcomed this move.

For the industry, this will mark a significant increase in their sales, in terms of increase in volume per customer and also forming new customers. While many existing pet owners will switch over to specialized packaged pet food with this move, there will be many others who had been refraining from having more pets due to the cost involved, but would do so now.

It’s notable that in the recently held panel discussion organized by Creature Companions at their first International Pet Fair, several speakers had raised this issue from the industry and the consumers’ point of view.
