NEW DELHI: The police and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) washed their hands of the incident in May in which, 11 dogs were allegedly butchered within the DJB complex at Jal Sadan. While DJB claimed preliminary investigations had revealed that none of their employees had been witness to the killings, cops say there was no evidence of such an incident taking place in order for them to file a complaint.
Animal activists reportedly barged into DJB CEO Ramesh Negi's office in Lajpat Nagar after being made to wait for a meeting with senior officials that was later called off. Said marketing director of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA India), Ambika Shukla, “We were supposed to meet with the CEO on this matter. A prior message about the meeting had also been sent to Negi. However, he did not turn up. We then entered his office and put up posters that read ‘Shame on DJB’.”
Meanwhile, a prayer meet for the dogs that were reportedly killed was held on the DJB office premises. “We want to send out the message that the voices of animals cannot go unheard. We were assured by the police that no such incident will occur in the future,” Shukla said.
